Followed, not spotted. The same bus from stop to stop, so a gap can be traced along the corridor instead of guessed at from two ends.

Without overlap

A path that breaks between two viewsA road seen from above. Two sensors stand along it. Each one covers an oval of road. The two ovals do not touch, so there is a gap between them. One object travels along the road. Its path is drawn as two lines in two colors. The first line stops where the first oval stops. The second line starts where the second oval starts. No line is drawn between them. In the gap the object is an empty outline, because nothing is watching it there. What comes out the far side is counted as a new object.

The path ends at the edge of the view. What comes out the far side is a new object.

With overlap

A path that stays whole across the handoffThe same road, with two pylons on it. Each one covers an oval of road. The two ovals cross, so there is no gap between them. One object travels along the road. Its path is one line in one color, with no break in it. The object sits inside the patch both ovals cover. There the second pylon has it before the first one loses it. It carries one number the whole way.

The next pylon has it before the last one loses it. One object, one number.

The views overlap on purpose. Inside that overlap, one pylon hands the object to the next. That is the handoff.
