Cities decide where to spend safety money using numbers nobody measured. Crashes get counted. The traffic under them is a guess.
The privacy design came out of the same decision. It was not added on top. A system that must know who you are to count you is a worse counter. That kind of system is a much worse neighbor. Ours never learns, so it has nothing to leak, sell, or be subpoenaed for.
An older Forge Core site is still findable. It says Road Sentinel identifies vehicles and tracks them without stopping. That capability is the part we gave up.
The old page also describes MAPS. We are not retracting MAPS. MAPS is an app a person installs on their own phone. It warns them that a vehicle is coming. It follows that person because that person asked it to. The old copy left out the consent. We are putting it back rather than waiting to be asked.
